Hill Country Erosion Fund

n August 2018, Nelson City Council received funding of $187,200 from the Ministry for Primary Industries Hill Country Erosion Fund, approved. The funding will be used to work with landowners on land management for lifestyle blocks and farms in the Wakapuaka area.

The funding will be used to build capacity within the Council and to support work in rural areas to reduce erosion across steep and erosion-prone land.  Council will work in partnership with New Zealand Landcare Trust to deliver the desired outcomes.

In particular, the funding will be used towards a better understanding of the issues facing small block owners. This understanding will help towards developing resources that can be used in other regions.
