Children’s car seat recycling subsidy

Did you know that children’s car seats have an expiry date for safety reasons? Materials from these seats can be easily recycled and made into useful new products, and the recycling process creates opportunities for social enterprises across New Zealand.

From 1 February 2019, Nelson City Council has been offering a subsidy against the cost of recycling a car seat, bringing it down to $10 per seat (previously $25). This service is available in Nelson through Baby On The Move. You can contact them directly to access the subsidy.

Please note that from 1 April 2023, due to significant increases in costs, the recycling charge will increase to $35 per seat.
